Four thieves vinegar-
This was an aromatic vinegar used as a disinfectant and given this name because it was used by some thieves who robbed houses of plague victims during an epidemic in Marseilles in 1722. they washed themselves with it and sprinkled it on their clothes and around their houses. It was made by infusing garlic, lavender, mint, rue, sage, wormwood, calamus root, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg in a crock of vinegar.
Beautiful written … thank you for the background information.
